Conservation Window
Conservation Window invites visitors to observe Walters Art Museum conservators as they work on active conservation projects and to speak with them about the techniques, research, and decision-making involved. The program takes place in a small studio adjacent to the museum’s laboratories, with a window opening that allows visitors to watch the work in progress.
The Walters’ Conservation and Technical Research Department was established in 1934 and is the third-oldest museum laboratory in the country. Outside the scheduled program hours, visitors can still look through the window to view a display about an ongoing conservation project and learn more about the care of the museum’s historic collection.
