Off the Page Closing Reception

Celebrate the closing of Jessica Damen’s solo exhibition *Off the Page* at The Peale. The reception offers a final opportunity to view the exhibition, meet and connect with the artist and the broader community involved in the project, and experience the ongoing exchange between literature, painting, poetry, sound, and interpretation.

Damen’s work takes poems, stories, myths, memories, and other texts as starting points for painting. The exhibition considers how words change when they move beyond the page, bringing paintings into conversation with the writers and texts that inspire them. Paintings respond to poems, poems have been written in response to paintings, and recorded voices, performances, music, conversation, and collaboration add further interpretations. The reception also highlights Damen’s continuing *Visions Verses Voices* project, which grows through new paintings, poems, readings, and soundscapes.
