Globe Posters for the People Exhibition Reception
Globe Posters for the People Exhibition Reception marks the opening celebration of a retrospective on Globe, a Baltimore printing company that made eye-catching promotional materials for artists, performers, and provocative ideas accessible to broad audiences. The exhibition explores Globe’s use of fluorescent DayGlo ink, originally developed during World War II, in silk-screen and letterpress printing to create high-contrast colors and distinctive typography.
The retrospective draws from more than 15,000 archival materials and follows Globe Press from its early years through its present-day role at MICA as a teaching tool, working press, and archival resource. Posters represented include those for local and touring figures such as James Brown, Salt-N-Pepa, and John Waters, as well as political campaigns, rodeos, and circuses.
