Collaborative Writing Retreat
Collaborative Writing Retreat is an interactive creative-writing workshop led by Alexandra Hewett. Participants will use writing prompts, improvisation, movement, and collaborative exercises to connect with other writers and create together in a supportive setting. No prior preparation is required, and the session is limited to 12 participants.
The workshop includes a short walk to Patterson Park, so attendees should dress comfortably and bring a notebook, a pen, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. Hewett is a psychotherapist, actor, writer, producer, and educator who teaches creative writing in Johns Hopkins University’s Odyssey program. She produces the storytelling show Mortified in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, and has performed at venues and festivals including the Kennedy Center, DC Fringe Festival, Baltimore Improv Group, Manhattan Rep Theatre, Magnet Theatre, and Strand Theater. She wrote and performed the one-woman show Mother Therapy, holds an MS in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Maryland and an MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts from the University of Baltimore, and has published essays in Eight Stone Press, Baltimore Fishbowl, and Welter. She is also the author of *Shimmer* and editor of *Homeland*, a collection of her father Leo Surak’s poetry translations scheduled for publication by Bergstrom Press in fall 2026.
