Cafe Scientifique
Cafe Scientifique presents “Our Chesapeake Osprey Are in Trouble … What’s Going On???” with Thomas Guay, founder of Eco-Ed Endeavors. The talk examines a marked decline in the reproductive success of ospreys nesting along the Severn River, based on field observations, drone images, and detailed records gathered in 2025 and 2026. Guay will share what the project found and consider what the available evidence does—and does not—reveal about the causes.
Guay is an observational scientist, environmental educator, writer, sailor, and longtime Chesapeake advocate. Through Eco-Ed Endeavors, he involves students and volunteers in collecting environmental data. He previously served for 14 years as a board member and program manager with the Severn River Association, where he established a certified water-quality monitoring program and created the Floating Classroom. His work has addressed dead zones, algae blooms, underwater grasses, oyster restoration, and osprey behavior. A former Capitol Hill reporter, Guay is also the author of *Chesapeake Bound*, the first novel in his *Sailing To Revolution* series.
