Faces from an Island: Photographs by Allen Moore

Faces from an Island: Photographs by Allen Moore presents photographs made on Berneray in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. The exhibition focuses on the island’s traditional Gaelic crofters and fishermen, whom American filmmakers Jack Shea and Allen Moore documented while living in the community between 1978 and 1981.

During that period, Shea and Moore created the documentary *The Shepherds of Berneray*. Alongside the filmmaking, Moore took hundreds of still photographs as a way to better understand the island and its inhabitants. The images reflect the lasting friendships he formed there and serve as a tribute to Berneray’s distinctive heritage and people.

Visitor Access: Visitors from outside MICA must sign in at the front desk of the building. On weekends, outside visitors must be accompanied by a MICA community member with a MICA ID to swipe into the building.
