Rhythms of Thailand: Illuminating Tradition
Somapa Thai Dance & Music Company presents an afternoon of traditional Thai music and dance celebrating Thailand’s diverse cultural heritage. Led by Thai music master Vorayot Suksaichon and featuring guest pianist and composer Kit Young, the performance combines treasured traditional works with innovative interpretations. The program welcomes both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers, highlighting Thai artistic traditions as a way to connect people across cultures.
After the performance, guests can attend a reception with Thai snacks and desserts inspired by the culinary traditions of Thailand’s royal courts. Somapa is a Washington, DC-area ensemble whose principal artists trained in Bangkok and have performed at institutions including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian museums, Wolf Trap, the Walters Art Museum, and the Maryland Folk Festival.
