Jones Falls 2076 Refuturing Workshop
The Refuturing Workshop: An Antidote to Toxic Futures invites participants to imagine positive, ecologically resilient futures rather than accepting dystopian narratives. Presented by the Ecological Design Collective at The Peale, the gathering combines conversation, relationship-building, a sound bath, guided visualization, and group discussion about the actions and collaborations that could help bring those futures into being.
The workshop is connected to the Jones Falls 2076 exhibition, which considers alternative futures for Baltimore’s Jones Falls River. The exhibition features 14 newly commissioned speculative works imagining the river in 2076 as restored, uncovered, reconnected, and once again central to Baltimore’s ecological, social, and civic life. It also includes historical plans and depictions of the river, from efforts to control or bury it to more recent proposals for daylighting and reclaiming the waterway. Visitors are invited to contribute their own ideas through participatory design activities.
The Ecological Design Collective is a Baltimore-based group focused on open-source communication, ecological design, community-building, and collaborative radical imagination, with connections beyond the region. With participants’ permission, the workshop may include exchanging contact information to support continuing relationships and future collaborations.
